A Chatham-Kent (CK) teenager is back home with a shiny new gold medal.
Paisley Fraleigh was part of Team Ontario’s winning squad at the 2026 U18 Women’s Tackle National Championship held in Regina.
Last year, she played on the provincial team that finished second in Calgary.
Fraleigh shared with CK News Today that the loss still sticks with her.
“I looked at the silver medal every night, and I’m like, that needs to be gold,” she explained.
Ontario triumphed over Quebec 68-8 in the championship match.
The team wrapped up the tournament with an impressive 5-0 record, outscoring their opponents 183-20.
Though she played both linebacker and defensive back, Fraleigh couldn’t decide if defense or offense had a better tournament performance.
“You can’t have a good offence without a good defence, and you can’t have a good defence without a good offence,” she explained.
This was Fraleigh’s final appearance for the U18 squad. She’s hopeful her achievements will inspire other girls in CK to get involved and consider playing football.
