A Chatham-Kent (CK) teenager is back home with a shiny new gold medal.
Paisley Fraleigh was part of Team Ontario’s winning squad at the 2026 U18 Women’s Tackle National Championship in Regina.
Last year, she played on the provincial team that finished second in Calgary.
Fraleigh shared with CK News Today that the loss still sticks with her.
“I looked at the silver medal every night, and I’m like, that needs to be gold,” she explained.
Ontario defeated Quebec 68-8 in the championship match.
The team wrapped up the tournament with a perfect 5-0 record, outscoring their opponents 183-20.
Even though she played both linebacker and defensive back, Fraleigh couldn’t pick whether defense or offense had a better tournament.
“You can’t have a good offence without a good defence, and you can’t have a good defence without a good offence,” she explained.
This marked Fraleigh’s final appearance with the U18 team. She’s hopeful her achievements will inspire other girls across CK to consider playing football.
