Durham police have taken a 14-year-old boy into custody following an investigation into a shooting that also connected him to several stolen vehicles.

On September 12, officers were dispatched to a gas station near Victoria Street West and Montecorte Street after receiving reports of an armed individual.

The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival, and it was later discovered that the vehicle he was driving had been stolen from Ajax just hours earlier.

The car was found abandoned in Pickering a few days afterward.

On Thursday, September 25, authorities arrested the suspect without any trouble. He is being held for a bail hearing.

A 14-year-old boy from Pickering faces charges including: Discharge Firearm with Intent to Endanger Life, Possess Prohibited/Restricted Firearm, Occupy Motor Vehicle with Firearm, Possess Loaded Firearm, Possess Electronic Device for Motor Vehicle Theft, Possess Break-In Instrument, Drive Motor Vehicle – No Licence x3, and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 x3.

If anyone has dashcam footage, cell phone videos, surveillance recordings, or any information regarding this incident, please reach out to Det. Smith of the West Division Criminal Investigations Branch at 905-579-1520 ext. 1905.

Anonymous tips can be sent to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or submitted online here.
