This weekend might be cool, wet, and cloudy, but there are plenty of events to lift your spirits.

The Royal City Roller Derby kicks off their season on Saturday at 3:30 p. m. at the Victoria Road Recreation Centre. You can buy tickets online.

On Saturday evening, musician Kaeley Jade will perform songs from her new album, The Great Unknown, at Emmanuel United Church.

Join a Home Routes folk concert featuring V. Poulsens Kapel at Brubacher House in Waterloo on Sunday evening for traditional Danish music. A potluck starts at 6 p. m. before the show.

The Guelph Symphony Orchestra wraps up its season with Music of the Silver Screen on Saturday night at the River Run Centre. Enjoy music from films like Lord of the Rings, How to Train Your Dragon, Out of Africa, James Bond, and more.

You can also check out a fundraising concert called Sing Into Spring with Gathering Sparks, Katherine Wheatley, and Joni Neh Rita on Saturday afternoon at Harcourt Memorial United Church in Guelph. Tickets are necessary.

On Friday night, the Kitchener Rangers will aim to finish their series against the Windsor Spitfires with puck drop set for 7 p. m.

The Museum, Kitchener

This is Waterloo region’s comic con experience filled with vendors and cosplay fun galore.

You can expect celebrity appearances from Peter Outerbridge (Suicide Squad, Lucky Number Slevin, Orphan Black), Sugar Lyn Beard (YTV’s The Zone, The Flash, The Mindy Project), and Katrina Devine (Power Rangers Ninja Storm).

Attend Jedi school, dance like you’re in a K-pop music video, learn about props or join a panel discussion about writing comics.

Guelph Bird Day

Saturday 9 a. m. to 5 p. m.

University of Guelph Arboretum

This event celebrates our feathered friends with bird walks along with hands-on activities featuring local bird groups and organizations plus vendors. Get close to some birds courtesy of Wild Ontario and learn how to prevent window collisions for them!

If you’re exploring the arboretum trails be sure to look out for some trilliums blooming!

Meet artist in residence Alisa Mc Ronald

Saturday 1 p. m. to 3 p. m.

Cambridge Public Library Preston branch

The exhibition Belonging: Made by Many features artist in residence Alisa Mc Ronald at Preston Gallery.

This is your chance to chat with Mc Ronald while trying weaving techniques or punch hooking-plus you’ll learn how to make textile art! Light snacks and refreshments will be available too!

Waterloo Collegiate Institute’s 65th anniversary

Saturday 10 a. m. to 3 p. m.

Waterloo Collegiate Institute

The school invites graduates from all years back for this special milestone celebration! There’ll be staff breakfast included along with an open house where you can take self-guided tours; times dedicated specifically for alumni from different decades so they can reconnect as well as an alumni basketball game!

Art market

Saturday 1 p. m. to 5 p. m.

7 Pequegnat Ave., Kitchener

This art market showcases creations made by residents living at A Better Tent City tiny home community! Before it starts there’s going to be a funding announcement happening right before noon!

Bonus: Jane’s Walks

Various times all weekend

Jane’s Walks are citizen-led strolls through local communities inspired by American writer and activist Jane Jacobs; these walks cover diverse topics across various areas! Some focus on Cambridge’s Hollywood connection while others highlight Grey Silo Trail adventures or explore Kitchener’s musical history along with viewing Guelph tree blossoms found within The Ward neighborhood among many other exciting themes!
