Authorities have detained two men who are now facing charges related to a deadly double shooting in Vaughan that took place in May, according to York Regional Police.

The shooting occurred at around 5:30 p. m. on May 13 near Kaiser Drive and Forest Drive, as stated in a news release from Monday.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire and discovered two men outside a residence with multiple gunshot wounds. The victims – Pasquale Casciato, 49, and Christian Belsito, 34, both from Vaughan – were later confirmed dead. Investigators believe this was a targeted incident.

A stolen blue SUV, which police suspect was used by the shooters before and after the attack, was subsequently found abandoned and on fire near Huntington Road and Kirby Road.

Last Thursday, as mentioned in the news release, investigators searched a home in Toronto where they seized a loaded firearm along with “materials used in the making of explosives.”

On that same day, further search warrants were executed in Windsor and Hamilton, leading to the recovery of three additional firearms and an extended magazine.

A 27-year-old man from Toronto now faces several charges including two counts of first-degree murder, arson causing property damage, and making or possessing an explosive substance.

A 55-year-old man from Windsor is also charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder and arson causing property damage.

York Regional Police say they are searching for 48-year-old Gerard Murray in connection with a double-fatal shooting in Vaughan that happened in May. (York Regional Police)

A warrant has been issued for Gerard Murray, a 48-year-old man from Windsor who is wanted on two counts of first-degree murder along with arson charges. Authorities say he often travels between southwestern Ontario including Windsor and The Greater Toronto Area.

“He is encouraged to seek legal advice and turn himself in,” the news release reads. “Investigators are reminding the public that anyone providing assistance to him may be subject to criminal charges.”

The investigation remains active, with police asking any witnesses who haven’t yet spoken to them or those with video evidence from the incident to come forward.
