WASAGA BEACH – The Town of Wasaga Beach has introduced a new Beach By-law as part of its ongoing Destination Wasaga master planning initiative. This move is aimed at establishing a systematic approach to safeguarding the beachfront while promoting responsible tourism, recreation, and public access.

The new by-law falls under the Town’s environmental leadership framework as part of Destination Wasaga. It enhances local protections for dunes, vital habitats, sensitive natural spaces, and wildlife, including the endangered Piping Plover.

From the beginning, Destination Wasaga has focused on managing the beachfront responsibly: protecting crucial habitats, adhering to established conservation guidelines, fostering local stewardship initiatives, and ensuring that public beach areas are safe, clean, and accessible.

This by-law clarifies local regulations for beachgoers, operators, and enforcement personnel. It also equips the Town with stronger tools to safeguard dunes, critical habitats, stewardship zones, active nesting sites for Piping Plovers, vegetation, natural features, and wildlife.

Key points of the new bylaw include these fines:

Up to $900 for entering a prohibited or restricted beach area Up to $2,500 for damaging vegetation or natural features Up to $3,000 for harming or disturbing wildlife Up to $2,000 for ignoring authorized signage

The new Beach By-law is just one part of a comprehensive environmental stewardship strategy that has been evolving through the Destination Wasaga Master Plan process since May 2025. From day one, the Town has integrated environmental leadership into Destination Wasaga by emphasizing green infrastructure solutions, responsible beachfront management practices, and continued protection of delicate habitats and natural features.
