The Vaughan council has given the green light to a master plan that will shape the future of the historic Mac Millan Farm property. This plan lays out a long-term vision that blends heritage preservation with fresh recreational, cultural, and environmental opportunities.

Approved in June, the plan focuses on the city-owned land at 9605 Dufferin St., which features heritage barns and houses, open fields, forests, a nature reserve, informal trails, and a creek.

City officials say this master plan aims to safeguard the site’s agricultural and natural heritage while introducing new public amenities as Vaughan grows.

The document outlines six key principles: nature-based destination, agricultural legacy, climate resilience, model of innovation, Indigenous placekeeping, and stewardship. It also presents a phased approach to future development.

It includes chances to promote nature exploration, showcase sustainable practices, and honor the property’s agricultural and ecological history.

“Mac Millan Farm is a truly unique and valued part of Vaughan’s history,” Mayor Steven Del Duca said in a statement. “This master plan sets out a thoughtful approach to growth that respects the heritage while creating new opportunities for residents and visitors to gather, explore and connect.”

This plan will maintain the site’s character while fostering innovation, sustainability, and public access. It also creates a framework for future improvements to the property with development expected in phases. No timeline or budget for implementation has been shared yet.
