A 65-year-old man is now facing charges after a pedestrian was hit and killed by a tractor-trailer in Vaughan on Thursday night.
According to police in York Region, a man was crossing the marked pedestrian area at the intersection of Highway 7 and Islington Avenue around 7:22 p. m. when he was struck by the driver of the tractor-trailer, who was making a right turn.
The pedestrian, a 62-year-old man from Toronto, was declared dead at the scene.
Authorities say the driver didn’t remain at the scene but was arrested shortly after in the vicinity of Steinway Boulevard and Steeles Avenue in Toronto.
A 65-year-old from Whitchurch-Stouffville has been charged with dangerous operation causing death and failing to stop causing death.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are asking any witnesses who might have been nearby or have dashcam footage to come forward.
