Five individuals have been charged, and a 16-year-old boy is being sought in connection with a deadly home invasion that occurred in Vaughan last August.

Police responded to a call at a home on Andreeta Drive, close to Major Mac Kenzie Drive and Highway 27, around 1 a. m. on August 31. Upon arrival, they found Abdul Aleem Farooqi, 46, with severe injuries. He was declared dead at the scene.

Authorities claim that a group arrived in a Honda CR-V that had been stolen just days earlier in Toronto. The suspects reportedly broke into the house, with one of them armed. During the incident, Farooqi was shot and killed.

The assailants then fled the location.

According to York police, the motive behind the alleged robbery was financial gain, and they believe it was a targeted attack.

On November 10, search warrants were executed at three homes in Toronto and Mississauga. Four people were taken into custody.

Amir Wiam Mohammad Abuhmid, 26, from Mississauga, faces charges including first-degree murder along with multiple other offenses like robbery while armed. He has also been charged for breaching probation.

The other three suspects arrested include Choszen Roshan Phillip, 25, from Toronto and two 16-year-olds who allegedly drove the stolen vehicle used to escape. They are all facing charges for possession of property obtained through crime exceeding $5,000.

A man from Toronto named Jahvon St Patrick Mc Narin, age 34, has also been charged as an accessory after the fact to robbery while armed.

York Regional Police Chief Jim Mac Sween remarked that this case “once again highlights how police chiefs across the country, myself included, remain adamant that changes need to be made to the (justice) system.”

“It’s time to contact a lawyer and turn yourself in,” Insp. Paolo Fiore stated.

The investigation by York police is still active and there are additional suspects still being sought.

All five individuals accused appeared in court on Wednesday and are currently held in custody.

Naeem Farooqi, brother of the victim, expressed gratitude towards York police for their efforts in identifying those responsible for Aleem’s death.

“We hope they are held accountable for their actions and not released into the public. We need to ensure Canadians feel safe in their homes and no other family should experience the nightmare we have been living since August 31,” he said in his statement.

City News reported that Farooqi lost his life right before his children during this violent break-in.

“[One of the alleged intruders] got the daughters at gunpoint. He brought them upstairs. That is when [Farooqi] saw that the other intruder was having a physical interaction. He was just shot right there,” family friend Ehsan Malik shared. “As far as I know he shot him twice.”

“It was in front of his daughters. All three of his daughters were taken upstairs at gunpoint by the intruder. They locked his son inside a bedroom while his wife tried to escape,” Malik added.

York police did not confirm these specifics but noted there were family members present during the robbery.
