Tensions Rise as Iran Backs Out of US Talks Amid Threats
The fragile 60-day ceasefire between the US and Iran continues to deteriorate as both nations exchange military strikes and accuse each other of violating their peace agreement.

Iran chose not to participate in the technical discussions scheduled for Sunday because of recent assaults on its territory and unmet conditions from a memorandum of understanding with the United States, according to an Iranian official speaking on state television.

“For instance, one reason is checking if we have access to the unfrozen funds; if we don’t have access, then this condition hasn’t been met,” Mehdi Fazaeili from the Office of Preservation and Publication of the Works of Iran’s Supreme Leader stated.

Shortly after US President Donald Trump warned he would eliminate the Iranian leadership if they didn’t adhere to the interim agreement aimed at stopping their conflict, Iran launched missiles and drones targeting US military locations in Kuwait and Bahrain.

Pakistan, acting as a significant mediator, mentioned that talks would recommence on Tuesday.

The Trump administration asserted that nothing has been canceled and technical discussions are still on track for the upcoming days as planned.

On Sunday, Israel announced it had targeted Iran-backed Hezbollah militants in Lebanon just one day after reaching a new ceasefire agreement with Lebanon meant to ease tensions that Iran claims must end for any broader deal to hold.

Earlier, the US military reported it had conducted another strike against Iran following an attack on a tanker in the Strait of Hormuz-an essential route for energy shipping that Iran has largely blocked throughout most of the ongoing conflict.

“There may come a point when we are no longer able to be reasonable, and will be forced to militarily complete the job that we very successfully started,” Mr. Trump said on social media.

“If that happens, the Islamic Republic of Iran will no longer exist!” he added.

The 14-point interim peace accord was designed to stop fighting-which began when the US and Israel launched operations on February 28-and reopen the strait while negotiations continued regarding issues like Iran’s nuclear program.

About an hour after Mr. Trump’s statement, Kuwait’s army reported that its air defenses were responding to missile and drone attacks while sirens were activated in Bahrain as well.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced through a statement that their navy and air forces had initiated missile and drone operations targeting US military installations in Kuwait and Bahrain.

The Guards claimed that US strikes violated the ceasefire agreement which “will result in the complete halt of all diplomatic processes,” according to state-run Press TV.

The IRGC navy command warned that US bases in the region “will experience hell in the coming days.”

A US official confirmed with Reuters that Iran had targeted American facilities but noted there were no reported casualties or significant damage at these sites; however, developments were still unfolding.

Shortly afterward, alarms went off again in Bahrain where officials reported an Iranian attack caused damage to a residential building in Muharraq province but fortunately resulted in no injuries reported.

Bahrain called upon the United Nations Security Council for an urgent meeting to hold Iran accountable for its actions.

The Kuwaiti army stated it intercepted two ballistic missiles without any damages or injuries occurring during those incidents.
