A city councillor in Toronto has stated that he is being investigated by the Ontario Provincial Police due to some allegations against him.
On Sunday, Coun. Parthi Kandavel (Scarborough Southwest) shared on Instagram that he was “surprised” to learn about the investigation on Friday afternoon.
“I recognize this is difficult news and hope to resolve the situation quickly,” he wrote.
Kandavel emphasized that he has “worked hard” to build trust with his constituents.
“I’ve strived to maintain the highest standards of ethics and integrity and will address any allegations that suggest otherwise,” he said. “I’m still learning more about the investigation and the nature of the allegations, and will share more as I can.”
CBC Toronto reached out to Kandavel, the OPP and Toronto police for comment.
Kandavel, who previously served as a trustee for the Toronto District School Board, was elected as councillor for Scarborough Southwest in a byelection in 2023, succeeding former budget chief Gary Crawford.
