A pedestrian has lost his life after being hit on the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) in Hamilton shortly after midnight on Sunday, according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

In a statement, police mentioned that the pedestrian – who hasn’t been officially identified but is thought to be an elderly man new to the area – was walking towards Fort Erie, near Fruitland Road in Stoney Creek, when he was hit by at least one vehicle.

Authorities reported that the victim was declared dead at the scene, and there were no other injuries noted.

According to officials, he was initially struck by one vehicle that stopped afterward and might have been hit by other vehicles that did not stay at the scene.

“One of the vehicles that may have struck the pedestrian but did not remain at the scene is believed to be a Honda motor vehicle based on debris located at the scene,” police said in the release.

“This vehicle would have sustained damage to the front driver’s side. The driver may not know what they struck.”

The OPP is urging that driver and any others who were driving through that area around the time of the incident to come forward.

No foul play is suspected, but investigators want to talk with all drivers involved to help with their inquiry.

If anyone witnessed what happened, they are encouraged to contact Burlington OPP or Crime Stoppers.
