Nathan Pavelski Joins OHL’s Rangers, Leafs Show Interest

Joe Pavelski might have a reason to visit Ontario, regardless of whether he lands the head coaching position with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Pavelski’s son, Nathan, was picked by the Kitchener Rangers in the Ontario Hockey League on Saturday. Like his dad, Nathan is a forward and was chosen in the ninth round as the 180th overall pick.

The 15-year-old Nathan played for the Madison Capitols (15U AAA) during the 2025-26 season, scoring 27 goals and adding 42 assists for a total of 69 points across 59 games.

This past season, Joe served as head coach for his son’s team and also worked as an assistant coach for the Capitols (14U AAA) the year before.

During his career in the National Hockey League, Joe accumulated 1,068 points over 1,332 games with both the San Jose Sharks and Dallas Stars before retiring at the end of the 2023-24 season.

The future Hall of Famer was mentioned as a candidate for the Maple Leafs’ coaching search as they moved into their next phase of interviews, which he has acknowledged.

“There’s truth to that stuff,” said the 41-year-old on Thursday, according to Bay Area News Group’s Chris Pashelka. “I’m excited to go through the process and kind of see where it leads.”

The Rangers celebrated winning both the OHL championship and Memorial Cup this past season.
