Halton Regional Police have taken a 14-year-old into custody regarding home invasions that occurred in Burlington and Oakville on April 22.
On that day, around 3:45 a. m., five suspects broke into a home in the Roseland area of south Burlington just before 4 a. m. They smashed a glass panel on the front door to gain access.
The residents confronted the suspects, who demanded valuables. A physical struggle followed, during which one resident was hit in the head with an unknown object, requiring medical attention. This caused the suspects to flee without taking anything.
Authorities believe this same group attempted another break-in earlier that morning in Oakville. Around 3:00 a. m., a southeast Oakville resident was startled awake by loud banging at the front door. The suspects were seen kicking the door and trying to use a hammer to force their way inside. The resident called 9-1-1, and the suspects escaped before police arrived, not managing to enter the house.
In both cases, witnesses reported seeing a dark-colored sedan driven by the suspects. All five were described as males with slim builds, dressed in dark clothing with hoods and balaclavas.
On June 9, officers from HRPS arrested a male teenager from Scarborough. He faces charges of robbery and was already under a release order.
Due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, police are unable to disclose the name of the accused.
The teen is being held pending a bail hearing scheduled in Milton.
Investigations are ongoing into these home invasions as authorities work to identify and apprehend additional suspects.
