Surrounded by his family, John Vuk Sr. left us on May 25, 2026, at Windsor-Essex Hospice. He was born on November 15, 1932, in the small village of Hotiza, Slovenia, and lived a life filled with love, laughter, and commitment. John’s life was a true reflection of the importance of family, hard work, and enjoying life’s simple pleasures.
John was the beloved son of the late Janez and Katarina Vuk and is preceded in death by his dear siblings Steve (late Carol), Martin (Pavla), and Mihael. He is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years, Katarina Vuk (née Stelcer), whom he wed on February 23, 1957, in Austria. Their marriage wasn’t just a partnership but a lovely story that lasted almost seven decades.
Together they raised three wonderful children: Stan (Ruth Anne), John, and Cindy (Tony), who will always carry his lessons and love with them. He also leaves behind his caring daughter-in-law Rhonda Vuk. John’s memory lives on through his grandchildren Melissa (Chad), Joseph, Victoria (Phillip), Matthew (Paige), Johnny, Brianna (Alex), and his great-grandchild Aleksander. Additionally, he is remembered by his loving sisters Annie (late Martin) and Marija (Marjan), along with many nieces and nephews.
John dedicated 28 years to Kelsey Hayes Canada as a crane operator and machine repairman. He earned respect for his strong work ethic and ability to fix nearly anything with his hands. His dedication to work paralleled his devotion to family.
A proud member of the Windsor Slovenian Cultural Club ‘Zvon’ and St. Francis of Assisi Church, John fully embraced his Slovenian roots and faith. He enjoyed various hobbies including gardening, making wine, caring for birds, and playing the accordion. One of his greatest joys was grafting fruit trees; however spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchild brought him unmatched happiness.
John was known for being warm-hearted with a good sense of humor. He was not just a loving husband or father but also an endearing dedek and papa who enjoyed sharing laughs with friends and family.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff and volunteers at Windsor-Essex Hospice as well as Amy’s Helping Hands, the VON Nurses, Paramed services, and Dr. Stephen Rukavina for their outstanding care during this time.
