Yesterday (May 4, 2026) marked a special occasion as Finnair launched its new flight service from Toronto to Helsinki.

After a gap of 11 years, the airline is back in Canada with this exciting three-times-a-week summer route between Toronto and Helsinki, which is generating quite a bit of excitement.

During a delightful Finnish lunch held on the 66th floor of Scotia Plaza in downtown Toronto, guests were greeted by Finland’s Ambassador to Canada, Hanna-Leena Korteniemi, along with Finnair’s General Manager for North America, Javier Roig Sanchez. They shared insights about the importance of this new connection.

Ambassador Korteniemi noted that these new flights enhance the ties between Finland and Canada, saying: “Finland offers something different and Finnair is making it possible for Canadians to experience it.”

Javier Roig Sanchez expressed his enthusiasm for returning to Canada with “the first and only direct transatlantic flight between Canada and Finland. As Finnair continues to expand in the North American market, adding Canada to our network is exciting.”

He also mentioned: “Whether they are exploring Helsinki or connecting elsewhere in the Nordics or Europe, we look forward to welcoming more Canadians than ever this summer.”

The direct route from Toronto to Helsinki will run three times weekly during the summer season. Passengers can choose from business class, economy class, and premium economy on board the Airbus A330.

The airline’s praised Air Lounge seat in Business Class features an innovative pod-like design without reclining options-perfect for both business and leisure travelers.

For travel advisors and their clients looking at Helsinki as a destination-it’s very accessible-but keep in mind that Finnair’s hub also serves as a major entry point to popular spots across Europe, the Baltics, Nordics, and even South Asia like New Delhi.

As part of the oneworld alliance, strong connections with airlines such as American Airlines, British Airways, Iberia, and Aer Lingus extend Finnair’s reach through partner networks.

Canadian travel advisors should remember that Finnair also partners with West Jet for routes originating from cities like YEA (Edmonton), YYC (Calgary), and YOW (Ottawa), among others.

This new Toronto route marks Finnair’s seventh gateway in North America. It highlights their commitment to growing their presence in this market. Roig Sanchez stated: “We believe the Toronto direct route represents a great opportunity in the Canadian market and will continue to support awareness of Helsinki and Finland among Canadian travelers. We’re excited about this summer season.”
