Firefighters are currently battling a blaze at 11 Thorncliffe Park Dr. – the same spot where a fire raged for weeks last year, forcing hundreds of residents to evacuate.

Toronto Fire received the call about the incident at Thorncliffe Park Drive and Overlea Boulevard around 11:43 a. m. on Monday after reports of flames on the seventh floor of an apartment.

Thankfully, there have been no injuries reported.

On November 27, 2025, a five-alarm fire erupted in the same building complex and smoldered for weeks within the walls connecting to an adjacent complex at 21 Overlea Blvd., before it was finally declared out on December 15, 2025.

Toronto Fire Chief Jim Jessop described that fire as “unprecedented and extremely challenging” while crews worked hard to extinguish smoldering materials trapped between walls.

The space between the buildings was only between 25 and 50 millimeters wide, which made it impossible for firefighters to access directly.

Jessop mentioned that this narrow gap contained compressed wood material that burns slowly, making progress “extremely difficult.”

In March 2026, Toronto Fire Services (TFS) charged a construction company along with the condo corporation and property management company for violating fire codes related to that prolonged fire.

The investigation revealed that construction work was taking place at 11 Thorncliffe Park Drive, and ignition sources were too close to flammable materials, leading to the start of the blaze.
