Ontario’s weather is going to be unpredictable as we head into April, and a late winter blast might hit soon, causing more of that annoying weather flip-flop.

Southern Ontario will see temperatures climb into the high teens on Monday, but there’s a chance of severe thunderstorms on Tuesday. So while you might be enjoying the warm weather, meteorologists say we can expect at least one more cold snap before spring really arrives.

Weather models from Europe, the U. S., and Canada all agree that a winter storm is likely to move through Southern Ontario on Thursday and Friday.

A mix of light snow along with freezing rain is expected to coat the area later this week, leaving behind some stubborn winter conditions after what has already been a tough season of extreme weather.

North American forecasts indicate snow in Toronto overnight Wednesday. On Thursday, temperatures are expected to stay around freezing with nearly 18 mm of precipitation predicted, making for potentially icy conditions in the city.

Southern Ontario should transition into spring more smoothly than northern parts of the province. Northern Ontario is set to face a winter system beginning early Tuesday that could bring up to 15 cm of snow and ice.

This won’t match the chaos caused by earlier historic snowstorms this winter, but having this new system arrive in early April will probably frustrate many who have just gotten through one of the harshest winters in recent memory.

The forecast shows temperatures climbing back into the mid-teens by Friday, with Toronto expecting a high around 15°C.
