Rachel Morrison’s Love of Your Life, featuring Margaret Qualley; Ben Shirinian’s The Housewife, starring Naomi Watts; and the hitman thriller Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother with Mahershala Ali are all set to make their world premieres at the Toronto Film Festival in September, organizers announced on Thursday.
TIFF will also showcase Glaxo, directed by Argentine Benjamín Naishtat, and provide an international premiere for the Zellner brothers’ alien invasion comedy Alpha Gang after its expected world premiere in Venice.
Black Panther cinematographer-turned-director Rachel Morrison helms the Amazon MGM Studios film Love of Your Life. The story follows a young woman played by Qualley who finds herself unexpectedly single and embarks on a journey to rebuild her life. The film is produced by Ryan Gosling and Jessie Henderson and features Gabriel Basso, Aaron Pierre, and Patrick Schwarzenegger as well.
Shirinian makes his feature debut with The Housewife, which stars Watts alongside Tye Sheridan, Michael Imperioli, and Luke Evans. This psychological drama is based on a true story from 1964 where Sheridan plays a young New York Times journalist trying to locate a potential Nazi officer living incognito in Queens. As he grows closer to the suspect’s charming wife played by Watts, his investigation takes an unexpected turn.
The festival will also host Mahershala Ali in the hitman thriller Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother. Written and directed by Bassam Tariq for Amazon MGM Studios’ Orion Pictures, this film includes John Cho, Abubakr Ali, Laith Nakli, Tramell Tillman, Tiffany Boone, and Giancarlo Esposito in its cast. It is set for release in theaters in fall 2026 following TIFF.
Toronto has also included Glaxo in its Special Presentations program. Based on Hernán Ronsino’s novel of the same name, this adaptation stars actress and singer Lali Espósito along with Esteban Lamothe and Marcelo Subiotto.
Cate Blanchett leads Alpha Gang as the commander of an extraterrestrial strike team disguised as humans in a leather-clad biker gang from the 1950s who are ruthlessly taking over Earth. Chris Pine, Dave Bautista, Léa Seydoux, Lily-Rose Depp, Adria Arjona, and Doona Bae are also part of the cast.
Earlier announcements from Toronto revealed that CODA filmmaker Sian Heder will kick off the festival’s 51st edition with Being Heumann. World premieres at Roy Thomson Hall include Prima Facie from British director Susanna White and The Assassin(s) from Korean auteur Hur Jin-ho.
The Toronto Film Festival runs from Sept. 10-20.
