When we kicked off the Tillsonburg Post as a bi-weekly newspaper on Sept. 19, 2024, I never thought that just nine months later we’d be able to move up to a weekly publication.
But I’m thrilled to share that we are making that change. Starting June 19, 2025, the Tillsonburg Post will become a weekly paper.
Throughout my newspaper career, I’ve had the pleasure of launching new papers eight times. Each one has meant something special to me, but nothing compares to the amazing support we’ve received in Tillsonburg.
There are two main reasons why our small company starts newspapers as bi-weekly rather than weekly.
The first reason is financial. Printing newspapers and paying our team of writers, graphic designers, and delivery folks costs quite a bit of money. These expenses rise significantly with more editions.
The second reason for starting bi-weekly is that I want our community members to actively engage with the newspaper and help us reach this milestone together. If you begin as a weekly publication, there’s no goal to work toward collaboratively.
From day one, residents of Tillsonburg (and nearby areas), business owners, and community groups have supported our paper like never before. We’re truly thankful for this. In a time when some people mistakenly believe newspapers are fading away, Tillsonburg is proving them wrong. In a caring community like this one, anything can happen.
One of my best memories in this business was meeting Bill Pratt at Annandale House on the morning of Sept. 19 and handing him that very first copy of the inaugural edition of the Tillsonburg Post. I reached out for his hand for a shake but instead got a warm hug from him. As we chatted throughout that morning, it was clear how happy he was about having a dedicated community newspaper back in Tillsonburg. This is what it’s all about – making an impact on people’s lives. As I make this announcement about the success of the Tillsonburg Post today, I can’t help but feel emotional thinking about Bill-whose life we’re celebrating this week-and whose lifelong dedication to improving his community is reflected in these pages.
