This Sunday, one of Hamilton’s busiest streets will be closed to traffic and open to pedestrians and fun.

From 10 a. m to 4 p. m., King Street E. will be pedestrian-only from John Street downtown to Gage Avenue in Ward 3, opening up more than three kilometres of roadway to games, food stands and vendors.

Specific intersections have been designated “activation hubs,” creating dense areas of activity between sections of open street, the city says. Five main hubs will be run by the city while three “mini-hubs” are being spearheaded by community members, businesses and business improvement area groups.

Activation Hubs:

John St. Hub Wellington St. Hub Wentworth Hub Sherman Hub Bernie Morelli Rec Centre Hub

Mini Hubs:

Ferguson Station through the International Village BIA (where Village Pride will also take place)The Kitchen Collective Food Court Barnesdale Mini Hub

For those not wishing to walk the whole three kilometres, Hamilton Bike Share is hosting Free Ride Day from 9 a. m. to 9 p. m. Sunday. New and existing riders can ride up to three hours in that time for free, using the Social Bicycles app.
