The opening ceremonies for the Paralympic Games are happening this afternoon (1:30 EST), and Canadian athletes have a lot at stake this year.
The Canadian Paralympic Committee states that its new performance recognition program will reward athletes who win gold at this year’s Paris Games with $20,000. Silver medalists will get $15,000, while bronze medal winners will receive $10,000, matching what Olympic athletes earn.
One athlete who might be in line for a big payday is Charlotte Bolton from Tillsonburg. At just 21 years old, she already holds all three Canadian records in the F41 throwing events.
