As Southwestern Ontario endures a severe and prolonged heat wave, residents of Oxford County will soon have a new way to cool off.

The Lake Lisgar Waterpark is scheduled to open on Saturday for one-hour swimming sessions suitable for all ages.

Julie Dawley, the aquatics supervisor in Tillsonburg, mentioned that the town has been preparing to open the pool while ensuring that necessary COVID-19 safety measures are implemented.

“We’re now accepting reservations for swim times this coming weekend and continuing into next week,” Dawley, who also serves as the president of the Lifesaving Society of Ontario, stated. “Each Wednesday, we’ll open booking for the upcoming weekend and the following week.”

Swim sessions will be limited to one hour so cleaning can occur between each group.

Guests arriving at the pool without a reservation will only be admitted if there’s space available and they pass the COVID-19 screening process.

Dawley explained that 75 individuals will be allowed in the pool each hour, and swimmers need to maintain a two-metre distance from anyone not in their group.

“The usual banding program and supervision requirements for young swimmers will also be in place. At the end of each hour, all guests will leave the pool so that cleaning can take place before allowing in the next group.”

Swimmers are encouraged to arrive dressed in their bathing suits since changerooms at the facility won’t be accessible.

The slide is currently undergoing repairs, along with other attractions at the waterpark which won’t be available yet.

All visitors must wash their hands when entering and leaving the facility.

“Going to the pool will definitely feel different this summer,” Dawley remarked, “but we’re making the best of it and doing what we can to give as many people as possible a safe swimming experience.”

People can call 519-688-9011 or visit www. tillsonburg. ca/waterpark to make their reservation. Admission costs $3, while children under six get in free.
