The Living History Re-enactment held at Otterville was a hit once again this year. There were skirmishes, cannon blasts, gunfire, and mock casualties scattered across the battlefield, alongside campsites where participants marched and drilled in period costumes eager to share their love of history.
I didn’t notice much fanfare during the weekend; instead, there were fascinating demonstrations highlighting the hardship and struggles faced by military members throughout history. We often take for granted our peaceful lives while those in war-torn countries endure destruction and loss daily, along with those involved in fighting to protect or provide humanitarian aid who know war’s harsh reality.
If someone had suggested ten years ago that we should recruit and train more soldiers, sailors, and airmen; build more tanks, drones, ships, and planes; stockpile ammunition and weapons to defend against invasion threats-I would have thought they were crazy. Today though? I’m not so sure anymore. Maybe we can’t afford to be just spectators anymore.

U. S. President Donald Trump was so taken by the Bastille Day parade in France that he wanted to replicate it back home with tanks and impressive displays of military might as a show of strength on his birthday.
You have to wonder if after attending an extravagant event in England with all the pomp-complete with Palace Guards and mounted troops outfitted in traditional uniforms-we could expect something similar for his wife’s birthday too? Would it end with a party in a newly built gold-decorated dance hall? Just thinking out loud here.
By the way, is he funding this fancy new disco himself like Mexico is supposed to pay for the wall? Just a thought.

I know some people doubt climate change issues exist but I can’t help wondering what damage is being done in places like the Caribbean Sea or Atlantic Ocean if boats blown up near Venezuela really carried tons of drugs. How far are those harmful substances traveling through currents causing pollution?
As I write this from my high perch up North watching our neighbor struggle through internal disputes blaming each other for everything that’s wrong-when I express concern for American citizens I’m met with “Well, they voted for him,” as if that somehow justifies their situation.
This serves as a reminder for all of us: make sure you know what you’re getting into when casting your vote next municipal election on October 26th, 2026. Take some time now to research candidates so you can make informed choices about who will serve our community best. You’ve got plenty of time to prepare if you start today!
What kind of government do you deserve?
