People looking for jobs can enjoy a free ride to Tillsonburg’s upcoming job fair.

Council agreed to a request from Randi-Lee Durham at the town’s Multi-Service Centre to let individuals heading to the centre’s job fair-scheduled for the Tillsonburg Community Centre on April 22 from 1 p. m. to 5 p. m.-ride the T: GO Transit system at no cost.

This same benefit will also be available for riders going to and from the centre’s fall job fair later this year via Stop 14.

“Our job fairs connect residents directly with local employers, training programs and employment supports; however, for many individuals who are unemployed or underemployed, even a small transportation cost can prevent them from attending,” Durham noted.

“Ridership data from previous job fair dates indicates that transit use aligns closely with event hours. By offering fare-free transit on just these two dates, the town could make a meaningful impact, helping more residents access employment opportunities while also supporting local employers who are looking to hire.”

“This is a simple, targeted way to improve accessibility and strengthen our local workforce.”

Carlos Reyes, the town’s director of operations and development, will report back to council with details on how many free fares were provided.</P

A memorial plaque planned for cemetery</P

The town staff is exploring options for a memorial plaque wall or something similar at the Tillsonburg Cemetery. This design would allow remembrance of those whose remains are located elsewhere.</P

Staying with the Tillsonburg Cemetery issue , council decided to remove the wooden arbour/structure in Division 5D. Adam Kannawin , manager of parks and facilities , referred to its location as an “arbour to nowhere.” It sits near cremation graves and across from Mc Donald’s on Simcoe Street.</ P

Shade options in Memorial Park</ P

To provide some relief from sun exposure during events in Memorial Park , council has asked staff to come back with options , prices , and spots for shade features close to the property bandshell.</ P

Consultation with the Tillsonburg Fair Board will be part of this research.
