Markham’s mayor is now making over $308,000 annually, following a council salary increase of about eight to nine percent in the city’s recent remuneration report.

The annual statement of remuneration and expenses reveals that Mayor Frank Scarpitti’s total pay jumped from $283,899 to $308,179 in 2025, marking an increase of around $24,280.

This amount includes earnings from the City of Markham, the Region of York, and affiliated municipal entities like Markham District Energy and Alectra.

A look back at last year’s disclosure shows comparable salary hikes across the council.

Regional Coun. Michael Chan saw his pay rise to $178,356 from $170,467, while Jim Jones’s compensation grew to $169,516 from $161,182.

Regional councillors Joe Li and Alan Ho also experienced increases in their salaries from $157,182 to $165,016 each.

For ward councillors, most salaries rose from roughly $102,382 to about $111,233 as part of this overall trend.

Coun. Andrew Keyes’ pay went up to $124,233 from $112,006; Amanda Collucci’s increased from $103,382 to $112,733.

The report additionally details discretionary expenses like mileage reimbursement for travel to meetings or conferences as well as costs for advertising and office supplies. It also covers council-directed expenditures such as training sessions and business missions.

Mayor Scarpitti’s discretionary expenses grew slightly from $25,450 to $26,263. In contrast, councillors’ expenses varied based on their travel needs and participation in events or activities.

The totals for remuneration do not factor in benefits according to the document.

Under the Municipal Act of Ontario municipalities are mandated to publicly disclose elected officials’ remuneration and expenses each year.
