Resurfacing contract awarded

The resurfacing work for three streets in Tillsonburg has been given to Dufferin Construction Company from Simcoe. The project will focus on Concession Street East, Clarke Street, and Eleanor Court and is expected to cost $257,017. This amount is $17,000 over budget. The extra funds will be taken from the town’s linear infrastructure reserve.

Work will kick off soon and includes both full and partial depth asphalt grinding along with hot mix asphalt paving in different areas. It will also involve base repairs where needed, adjustments of manholes and valves to match finished grades, and restoration of gravel shoulders.

Cranberry Road reconstruction

The reconstruction of Cranberry Road from North Street East to the north town limit will be handled by Sierra Infrastructure Inc. based in Woodstock, with a total cost of $4,153,957.

This project came in $1 million under budget and will involve updates to sanitary sewers, storm sewers, watermain services, utility road crossings, granular materials installation, concrete curb and gutter construction, base layer installation with surface asphalt application as well as sidewalk work including line painting, drainage swales improvements along with culvert extensions and storm headwall outlets restoration.

The entire project is set to last around 18 weeks through the end of this year; workers are expected to return mid-2026 for completing surface asphalt installation.

New hours at Annandale

Tillsonburg council has decided to adjust the hours for Annandale National Historic Site starting in 2026 to better align with its strategic plan.

A report from Katie Bakos-culture & heritage manager/curator-suggests gradually extending operating hours during summer season in 2026; specifically keeping the facility open two evenings each month until 7 p. m., particularly on the first and last Thursdays each month from Victoria Day until late August. Bakos noted that Thursdays tend to attract more visitors than other days. Consequently for the season of 2026 access will be available on those Thursdays from 9 a. m. to7 p. m., employing one full-time staff member working from10:30 a. m. to7 p. m.

“Summer students would be scheduled accordingly so no staff member works alone ensuring safety for workers along with consistent service for visitors.”

Museum hours on Saturdays will also expand between noon until4 p. m. from Victoria Day throughlate August.

“This approach responds directlytovisitor trends observed before,” stated thereport.”During trialsof evening hoursin falland wintermonthsfor2023 attendancewas low while locals frequently cited hockey games or discomfortwithdrivingafterdark as reasonsfordecliningattendance. Winter tourismhereisalso rare indicatingthatseasonal factorsare crucial. A gradual rollout during summer allows ANHS totestpublic interestinsummer extensions withoutstraininglimitedstaffing resources.”
