Severe thunderstorm watches are currently active across a significant portion of northwestern Ontario, warning about strong winds and large hail expected late Monday afternoon and evening.
The yellow-level alerts issued earlier today warn residents of wind gusts that could reach up to 110 km/h and the possibility of “ping pong ball-sized” hail, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada.
“Utility outages are possible,” the alert states. “Be prepared for severe weather. If threatening weather approaches, take cover in a basement or an interior room. If you’re outside, protect yourself from flying debris and hail.”

Kakabeka Falls – Whitefish Lake – Arrow Lake. Nipigon – Rossport. Pickle Lake – Cat Lake. Pikangikum – Poplar Hill – Mac Dowell. Sandy Lake – Weagamow Lake – Deer Lake. Savant Lake – Sturgeon Lake. Seine River Village – Mine Centre. Sioux Lookout – Eastern Lac Seul. Summer Beaver – Wunnummin Lake – Kingfisher Lake. Upsala – Raith. Webequie.
Residents are urged to secure any loose items around their properties and stay cautious about potential damage or injuries caused by lightning and large hail.
