Spring is just around the corner, but winter isn’t ready to leave yet.
The area was still under an Environment Canada Orange Warning for snow squalls as of Tuesday morning. An Orange Warning in Environment and Climate Change Canada’s new, colour-coded weather warning system is the second-highest level, right below Red Warning, and it signals severe weather that could lead to major disruptions or extensive damage.
Environment Canada reports that local snowfall amounts between 20 and 30 centimetres are likely, with winds gusting from 70 to 80 kilometres per hour as snow squalls from Lake Huron are pushed by westerly to northwesterly winds.
This blowing snow is expected to create dangerous travel conditions, with visibility potentially dropping to near-zero in some areas.
The snow squalls should start to ease off by Tuesday night.
Early Tuesday morning, the Ontario Provincial Police announced the closure of Highway 21 between Port Elgin and Kincardine due to poor weather conditions.
A Facebook post from the Saugeen Shores Police Service on Tuesday morning mentioned they were responding to several collision reports near County Road 25 (CAW) and Highway 21 and urged drivers to steer clear of the area while adjusting their driving according to the weather and road conditions.

In addition, Bruce County declared a significant weather event on Tuesday morning. The county warned drivers to be careful on county roads since it might take longer than usual for road conditions to improve.
The county lifted the significant weather event notice just before 5 p. m. on Tuesday.
