Tragic Snowmobile Accident Shuts Down Highway 11/17
Fatal snowmobile crash closes Highway 11/17 from Pass Lake to Nipigon

One person has lost their life in an event that led to the closure of the Trans-Canada Highway close to Nipigon on Tuesday.

Provincial Police report that it took place near Settler’s Road.

A passenger on a snowmobile was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deceased has been identified as a young individual from the Lake Helen First Nation.

Their name hasn’t been disclosed.

The crash occurred around 7:00 a. m. on Tuesday morning. Nipigon OPP, along with the Traffic Incident Management Enforcement Team and the coroner, are investigating the incident.

This situation resulted in the highway being closed for several hours on Tuesday.
