Train service has started again after a man was hit and killed by a GO train in Guelph, Ont., Thursday morning.

A spokesperson for Guelph Police mentioned that no further details about the man will be shared until officers can inform his family.

A representative from Metrolinx stated the person was struck at around 6:30 a. m. just east of the city’s station. The incident took place near York Road and Watson Road S. on Guelph’s east side.

As a result, Watson Road was closed for several hours while an investigation took place.

The situation halted services at various GO stations, including Kitchener GO. Passengers were advised to use the Milton line for eastbound travel.

GO Transit updated its website indicating that the investigation has concluded and trains would resume passing through the area, with an additional eastbound train leaving from Acton GO station.

“We anticipate some residual delays, cancellations, and possible modifications into the late morning while we work to resume regular service,” GO Transit noted on its website.

The Kitchener GO 11:26 train has been canceled, according to GO Transit.

GO Transit is also offering support for those who were on board the train.

“Today’s emergency east of Guelph was difficult for everyone involved,” GO Transit said in a message to riders.

“If you, or someone you know, need to talk, Connex Ontario is free and available 24 hours a day by calling 1-866-531-2600.”
