Over the weekend, parts of Ontario experienced record warm temperatures and rain, leading to road issues across some areas, according to Environment Canada.

A weather report from the agency noted that the temperature at Toronto’s airport hit 17.6 C on Saturday, breaking the previous March 7 record of 17.2 C set back in 1860.

In the St. Catharines area, a weather station recorded a high of 20.3 degrees on Saturday, while further north in Wiarton, over 40 millimeters of rain fell.

A low-pressure system moved through Ontario on Saturday, causing snow and rain in northeastern parts of the province and bringing rain, fog, and mild temperatures to southern Ontario.

This led to significant snow melting and reports of standing water on roads in various regions; Environment Canada indicated that parts of Bruce Road 7 were reported washed out.

The weather agency also mentioned that dense fog contributed to several accidents.
