A synthetic drug lab worth millions near Norwich has been shut down.

The RCMP reported that an investigation began in November 2025 after the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) flagged unusual chemical imports at a farm close to Norwich, located about 40 km west of Brantford.

It’s claimed that since summer 2024, Cam Valley Farms and its owner brought in over 1,500 kilograms of an unregulated chemical that could be used to create GHB, a colorless, tasteless liquid often misused as a date-rape drug due to its sedative properties that leave victims feeling drowsy.

Additionally, police allege that various large laboratory devices necessary for production were also imported.

Investigation Started Together

The RCMP and CBSA started a joint inquiry into the farm and its owner under suspicion of manufacturing this synthetic drug.

After their investigation, the RCMP stated they discovered a significant and well-organized illegal drug lab at a location just outside Norwich.

The Mounties mentioned that search warrants were executed on January 24, which led to the seizure of $300,000 worth of suspected GHB, 39 kilograms of controlled precursors, lab equipment, chemical glassware, and around 1,000 kg of various chemicals capable of producing up to $9 million worth of controlled substances.

Authorities also indicated that a large amount of hazardous waste was cleared from the site.

Kenneth Augustine Camacho, aged 41 from Delhi, was arrested and charged with producing a controlled substance, possessing chemicals and equipment for the purpose of creating a controlled substance, and possessing a controlled substance for trafficking purposes.

“This investigation highlights the impact of coordinated law‑enforcement efforts and shared responsibility to protect Canadians,” Insp. Lucio De Simone from the RCMP’s Kitchener Detachment said in a statement.

“By dismantling this operation, we not only stopped a significant quantity of GHB from entering our communities but also eliminated a hazardous chemical lab that posed serious risks to public safety, first responders, and the environment. The manufacture of these substances is inherently dangerous and its consequences extend far beyond those directly involved.”

The Ontario Provincial Police along with Norwich Fire and Emergency Services, the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office, and Health Canada also supported this investigation according to the Mounties.
