An officer from the Ontario Provincial Police has been charged with manslaughter related to the shooting death of a 22-year-old man in Norfolk County last summer, according to the province’s police oversight agency on Thursday.

The Special Investigations Unit reported that Const. Quade Odrowski was charged after looking into the shooting that occurred on August 12, 2025, at Turkey Point.

Authorities stated that OPP officers tried to stop a man on a personal watercraft on Lake Erie, but he did not comply.

The individual then parked his watercraft at Mac Donald Turkey Point Marina and ran into nearby woods, as indicated by the SIU.

While attempting to arrest him, an officer fired their weapon, resulting in the man’s death at the scene.

SIU director Joseph Martino mentioned there were valid reasons to believe a crime had taken place.

Odrowski was taken into custody on Thursday at SIU headquarters and released under specific conditions. He is set to appear in court in Simcoe, Ont., on June 2.

The Ontario Provincial Police Association expressed its support for Odrowski and fellow officers involved in this case.

“Our members have cooperated with the investigation led by the Special Investigations Unit, as mandated by law,” association president David Sabatini said in a statement.

“As part of the OPP Association’s support of PC Odrowski, we provide him with legal counsel and will fully support a legal defence as the matter proceeds through the justice system.”

The SIU stated it would refrain from further comments since this matter is currently before the courts.
