The development of the next stage of Fancsy Family Hospital construction has taken a significant step forward.
Windsor Regional Hospital (WRH) and Infrastructure Ontario announced on Thursday evening that they have asked two prequalified teams to submit Requests for Proposals (RFP) to design and build the second phase of the hospital.
The two firms are Ellis Don Infrastructure Healthcare and Windsor Health Infrastructure Partners.
This selection came after a competitive process earlier this year. The finalists were picked based on their experience, qualified staff, and financial capability.
“The release of the RFP moves us one step closer to construction of the project’s largest phase and is a testament to the continued commitment of our government partners, as well as the dedication of our project teams and community leaders, to advancing the Fancsy Family Hospital Project,” said WRH President and CEO Kristin Kennedy.
The selected firms will have until summer 2027 to prepare their proposals, which will be assessed by WRH and Infrastructure Ontario. The winner will be revealed in fall 2027.
This phase will be the largest part of this extensive project, including the future Diagnostic and Treatment Block. It will accommodate the hospital’s new Emergency Department and helipad, Regional Trauma Centre, Regional Cancer Centre, Surgical Services, Critical Care, Cardiac Catheterization Lab, Women’s and Children’s Services, along with public amenities and a Central Utility Plant.
Ground was broken on the first phase in July, featuring a three-storey education and administrative centre, a 700-space parking garage, and essential site infrastructure.
