The Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) has announced the findings of its annual Worst Roads campaign, revealing that four streets in Sarnia have made it into the top five for southwestern Ontario.
Lauren Fisher, Manager of Government Relations, stated that Blackwell Sideroad leads the regional rankings.
It was second in 2025 and third in 2024.
“This road was nominated for its potholes and poor road maintenance, specifically at Michigan Line and Confederation Line,” said Fisher. “New to the list, in the second spot, we had Errol Road East. The top intersection cited there was Concordia Drive for its potholes and uneven road surfaces.”
According to information from the city’s website, plans are underway for asphalt replacement on Errol Road East later this year from Tawny Road to Cathcart Boulevard.
Indian Road South came in third place, with the worst intersection being at Churchill Road. Vidal Street South rounded out the list at number five, with its worst spot located at Clifford Street.
The only road outside of Sarnia that made it to the top five was Riverside Drive East in Windsor.
The most problematic intersections there were at Goyeau Street and Jefferson Boulevard. Common issues included potholes, unmaintained roads, and overall poor conditions.
Fisher mentioned that CAA’s Worst Roads Campaign is a valuable tool for advocating improvements to government officials.
“After the campaign wraps up we have those conversations with the municipal and provincial governments,” she said. “We’ll share this information and see if we can get some funding or get any of these projects fast-tracked so they can come off the list in upcoming campaigns.”
Fisher noted they have achieved positive outcomes previously.
This includes removing Sarnia’s Plank Road from the list in 2025 after it had been part of the regional top five since 2019.
“For County Road 49 in Prince Edward County, this is the first year that it hasn’t been on our provincial top 10 list in seven years,” said Fisher. “That’s because the municipality has committed to rehabilitating the entire road.”

1. Barton Street East, Hamilton
2. Hurontario Street, Mississauga
