Kingston is one of several cities between Sault Ste Marie, Sudbury, North Bay, Peterborough, Ottawa, and Petawawa that will experience more military traffic on its roads and highways.

A news release indicates that residents can expect to see transport and supply convoys from the 33 Canadian Brigade Group on August 20-21 and August 29-30.

Members of the Canadian Army Reserve will be using various routes, including Ontario highways 7, 17, 26, 41, 55, 115, 401, 403, and 417.

“This increased military traffic is in support of annual training and will follow pre-planned routes. Convoys will transport over 500 soldiers and their equipment in Department of National Defence vehicles and chartered buses. Participating personnel will conduct planned, short stops along the routes, stopping for rest, fuel, and scheduled maintenance,” read the release.

Officials also noted that soldiers involved will not carry any weapons or ammunition during public stops along the designated travel routes to and from this annual exercise.

Canadian Army Reserve members from Northern, Central and Eastern Ontario are set to take part in Exercise Wolfpack Guardian from August 21 to 29 at Garrison Petawawa. This major end-of-summer training event includes simulated combat operations as part of the Canadian Armed Forces’ mission for preparedness and readiness.

Troops from different Ontario communities will participate as well-this includes infantry, artillery, and signals units from Northern, Central and Eastern Ontario.

The public is asked to exercise caution when approaching military vehicles.
