A man charged with sexually assaulting three teenagers and one young woman in Chatham-Kent and Sarnia-Lambton back in 1997 has confessed to the crimes.
Jason Davidson, 53, previously from Chatham, acknowledged in a Chatham court on Friday afternoon that he assaulted the four women between March and August of 1997.
Davidson was apprehended in Campbell River, British Columbia on October 26, 2025 on 15 charges including kidnapping, forcible confinement, making threats, sexual assault, aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault causing bodily harm, sexual assault with a weapon, and theft.
The prosecution informed the court that all four victims were assaulted in similar ways.
The court heard that the victims were offered rides, asked to exchange sex for money, and taken to isolated locations where they experienced violent assaults. This included being dragged out of a car by their hair and being threatened with death if they didn’t comply with his demands.
The prosecution pointed out that Davidson was charged after DNA evidence linked him through genealogy matching and his vehicle matched descriptions given by witnesses.
One victim shared during her impact statement that the assault had a lasting effect on her relationships. She expressed feelings of fear when it comes to intimacy and mentioned blaming herself for how she dressed.
The other victim impact statements were submitted but not read aloud in court.
Davidson expressed regret during the proceedings saying he’s sorry for what he did and understands the pain he caused. He added that he feels deeply remorseful and isn’t the same person who committed those acts nearly three decades ago.
In a joint recommendation from both sides of the case, the judge was asked to impose a sentence of 13 years minus time served as appropriate punishment.
Davidson’s sentencing is scheduled for November 5.
