The Ontario Autism Program is set to receive additional funding, but there’s some uncertainty about what the funds will actually cover.

The budget is being increased from $779 million to $965 million to support services like applied behaviour analysis and occupational therapy.

“I know it was a general announcement, and it was a nice amount for sure. At this point it hasn’t been clarified by the province as to what funds are going where, we just don’t know,” said Donna Litwin-Makey, CEO of the Children’s Treatment Center of Chatham-Kent.

Litwin-Makey mentioned that this funding could assist families in getting the financial aid they need for proper services for their children.

“We would always use more funding to do better and take more kids, we’ll put it that way. So it’s always a good time to welcome funding because there’s a lot of kids and a lot of demand and some gaps for sure,” said Litwin-Makey.

The new funding is expected to begin on April 1 as part of the 2026 Ontario budget.
