Inspectors from York Region Public Health issued fines to Ha Ha Hair Salon in Richmond Hill, as well as Nail Time and Beauty and Nice Nails last week.
Salons in Richmond Hill and Woodbridge have been cited for violating public health regulations last week.
Ha Ha Hair Salon, located at 14 – 10737 Yonge St. in Richmond Hill, was charged with not cleaning reusable equipment often enough to prevent disease transmission after a re-inspection on May 9 by York Region Public Health.
This charge follows a re-inspection conducted on May 8 and an initial inspection on May 2, during which it was observed that general housekeeping conditions were lacking and reusable equipment wasn’t cleaned or disinfected/sterilized properly.
Nail Time and Beauty at 1 Sonoma Blvd. in Woodbridge received a charge on May 12 for not disinfecting reusable equipment frequently enough to stop disease spread, along with failing to maintain disinfection records as required after an inspection on May 8.
The salon offers services like eyebrow shaping, manicures, pedicures, waxing/sugaring/threading, and eyelash extensions. It was found to be non-compliant regarding maintaining satisfactory general housekeeping conditions by ensuring furniture is “in good repair, easily cleanable, of a smooth and impermeable material and maintained in a sanitary condition,” according to the report.
The report also mentioned that the following issues were addressed during the May 8 inspection: ensuring reusable equipment is disinfected frequently enough to prevent disease transmission; using disinfectants and sterilants within their expiration dates; applying disinfectant for the correct contact time or concentration based on the item(s) being disinfected; and keeping records for high-level disinfection.
Nice Nails at 11 – 8280 Highway 27 in Woodbridge faced charges for not cleaning or disinfecting reusable equipment between uses on May 12 after an inspection prompted by a complaint on May 9.
The inspection report from May 9 highlighted several compliance failures: failing to ensure reusable equipment is cleaned and disinfected or sterilized between each use; not discarding single-use instruments immediately after use; using disinfectant improperly regarding contact time or concentration for the items being disinfected; failing to keep records for high-level disinfection; and neglecting to maintain accidental exposure records.
The reports reflect the state of personal service settings only at the time of inspection and do not guarantee or assure conditions of food premises/recreational water settings/personal service settings at any other times.
