A woman from Richmond Hill walked out of a nearby store with an amazing $100,000 after an unexpected grocery trip.

Hamedah Chan matched the last six out of seven Encore numbers in the exact order during the Lotto Max draw on May 16.

Chan, who is a homemaker and mother to three kids, received one of two Lotto Max tickets that her brother had bought, as stated in a news release from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG).

Nearly a month after buying them, Chan’s brother called to remind her to check those tickets.

Having both tickets in hand, Chan went to a local store for validation.

A cashier checked the first ticket and handed Chan $20.

“Then she scanned the second one and told me it was a big win,” Chan remembered.

Chan said it took some time for the news to fully register.

“I was confused, shocked, and excited all at once, but I tried to keep myself calm,” she said.

When she got home, Chan shared the exciting news with her husband.

“He was very happy and grateful,” she said. “Later that day, I called my brother and said, ‘Guess what? I won.’ He was so surprised and couldn’t believe it.”

Chan intends to save money for her children’s education, pay off bills, and share part of her winnings with family members.

“You see people winning all the time, but when it happens to you, it feels surreal – like a dream. I’m incredibly grateful for this win,” she added.

The winning ticket was bought at Circle K located on Humber College Boulevard in Etobicoke.
