A joint investigation is underway following what police are calling a serious car crash in downtown Port Elgin on Saturday afternoon.

The accident took place at the intersection of Gustavus Street and Goderich Street, which is also known as Highway 21. Several vehicles were badly damaged, and debris littered the road while police spent hours looking into the incident.

Witnesses said they saw a man flee from the scene after the collision.

Police have not yet confirmed if this event is linked to a reported theft in Paisley that happened around the same time as the crash in Port Elgin.

Saugeen Shores Police and Ontario Provincial Police stated there’s no threat to public safety, and investigations are still ongoing.
