Lottery players in Pickering and the rural area of Sunderland are celebrating after winning $100,000 and $90,000 in recent draws.
Poonardai Chatterpaul from Pickering matched the last six out of seven ENCORE numbers in the exact order during the August 20 Lotto 6/49 draw to take home $100,000. Meanwhile, William Lawrenson from Sunderland is now $90,000 richer after claiming a top prize with The 90s instant lottery game.
Chatterpaul, who works in real estate, likes to buy her tickets on OLG. ca. “I always throw in Encore because you just never know,” she mentioned while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto collecting her winnings.
The 56-year-old expressed that she was stunned when she got an email about her big win. “I couldn’t believe it,” she said. “I had to look twice!”
When she told her husband of 36 years about it, he was skeptical at first. “He said, ‘Yeah, right!’”
She is still thinking about how to spend her newfound fortune.
Lawrenson, who is self-employed, has been playing the lottery with OLG for two decades. “I just picked up this ticket randomly,” he shared, adding that he was also surprised by his win. “I didn’t believe it at first,” he noted. “I only told a few people.”
“This win feels pretty good!” the 55-year-old Lawrenson said with a smile. “I’ll put it in the bank and consider investing some.”
The winning ticket was bought at Freshmart on River Street in Sunderland.
