Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reminding everyone that when camping, it’s crucial to keep your keys hidden and avoid driving under the influence.

This reminder comes after Perth County OPP charged a man from Cambridge with impaired driving following an event at a campground in West Perth.

The incident took place on Friday, July 11, when police received reports of someone possibly driving while impaired in the campground area.

Officers arrived and managed to stop the vehicle, speaking with the two individuals inside. However, the passenger allegedly assaulted both officers before they fled on foot from the vehicle.

According to police reports, they didn’t get very far and were arrested at the scene.

As a result, both individuals are facing multiple charges. The 45-year-old man from Cambridge who was driving has been charged with:

Operation While Impaired Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand Resist Peace Officer Failure to Comply with Undertaking Failure to Stop for Police – Contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

The 37-year-old passenger from St. Mary’s faces charges of:

Assault Peace Officer with a Weapon Assault Peace Officer – Two Counts Resist Peace Officer

Both individuals were held in custody but have since been released. A court date has been set for August 11.

The Perth County OPP encourages anyone with information about this incident to call 1-888-310-1122 or contact Crime Stoppers.
