The recent finding of another set of human remains in a wooded area near Smiths Falls, Ont., has “deeply affected” many residents in the small rural town, according to the reeve of Montague Township.

Ontario Provincial Police reported on Wednesday that they found human remains on July 20 that belonged to Robert Lambert.

Lambert was 75 years old when he went missing on November 30, 2018.

“The gentleman was a community member, and we’re a small community,” said Montague Township Reeve Karen Jennings on Thursday.

“A lot of us know our neighbours and our community members. That’s the biggest impact… we are a great little community, so when something happens, it affects us all.”

OPP confirmed Wednesday that they’d found the remains of Robert Lambert, who had been missing since 2018 from the Smiths Falls area. (Ontario Provincial Police/Facebook)

Lambert’s remains were discovered on a 16-hectare property on Kelly Jordan Road that he purchased in 2004.

This revelation comes nine months after OPP identified the remains of 34-year-old Robbie Thomson at the same location.

Police have charged four individuals concerning Thomson’s death.

No charges have been filed yet regarding Lambert’s case.

“The OPP will be following through and completing their investigation,” Smiths Falls Mayor Shawn Pankow told CBC’s Ottawa Morning on Friday.

“Hopefully charges are laid and convictions are found in this whole process.”

Karen Jennings, the reeve of Montague Township, stated that finding the remains of both missing men has shocked the community. (CBC)

OPP Will Stay at Scene

While Lambert’s remains were located last month, additional time was required for identification and to inform his next of kin, explained Sgt. Erin Cranton, media co-ordinator for East Region OPP.

The OPP has maintained a presence at the Kelly Jordan Road property since October 2025 and plans to remain there for an extended period, Cranton said.

“I think that’s what’s most important, [that] regardless of the amount of time, we haven’t stopped looking and searching for answers,” she added.

“We will continue to do so to bring closure and to bring information to the family of the deceased.”

Jennings mentioned that due to the ongoing police investigation, the township won’t provide any further comments about this situation.

She urged everyone to allow authorities enough time and space needed for their work.

“We ask everyone to continue to keep the families of Robbie and Robert in their thoughts and continue to support one another as the investigation continues,” Jennings said.
