The police chief in Ottawa is warning officers to stop using police databases to pursue women for romantic or sexual relationships.

In a video message shared on social media, Chief Eric Stubbs mentioned that some officers have inappropriately searched for women they’ve encountered in public, reached out to vulnerable victims after responding to calls, and participated in sexual harassment and assault.

Stubbs labeled this behavior as “unacceptable,” urging members to either modify their actions or leave the force.

“I want to have a serious and uncomfortable conversation with all of you,” said Stubbs. “Change your behaviour now, or quit – leave. Members are using our databases as their own way to meet women.”

This warning comes on the heels of recent misconduct incidents and amidst growing pressure on Ottawa police to tackle gender-based harassment, abuse of power, and issues related to workplace culture.
