The family of Kevin Wade Chenier shares with great sadness the news of his unexpected passing on the morning of Wednesday, June 17, at the age of 72. Kevin was enjoying a beautiful motorcycle road trip on Manitoulin Island alongside his close friend and “travelling mechanic,” whom he affectionately called Bruce Deagle. He had made many trips to Manitoulin with his family and always treasured the joy of riding on the Island.
Kevin met Lisa Beckwick, the love of his life, during the summer of 1985, and they tied the knot in 1988. Shortly after, they welcomed their two sons, Kale and Connor, who have grown into wonderful young men – much like their father.
A proud Current River boy, Kevin lived a full life in Thunder Bay. He was skilled in many areas; he started out working on heavy equipment in the bush before becoming a shipwright and lumber grader. In his 30s, he went back to trade school to become an electrician. A proud member of IBEW Local 402, he wrapped up his career at the Casino and retired in 2016. Kevin took immense pride in building a warm and inviting home for his family by the Mackenzie River. Over the years, he worked alongside Lisa while carrying on his father’s legacy as operator of Sleeping Giant Campground.
Kevin was kind-hearted and generous towards both family and friends. Though he didn’t speak much, his actions were loud – always considering how he could lend a hand to others. He found happiness in life’s simple joys: sipping coffee on the deck each morning, cooling off outside after sauna sessions while listening to favorite tunes, tinkering around in his garage, operating his backhoe, and especially spending quality time with his beloved Keeshonds, Raz and Birch. Traveling brought him joy too; he recently returned from an unforgettable trip to Europe that ended in Venice. Kevin truly lived out his dreams.
Kevin is survived by his loving wife Lisa; sons Kale and Connor; brother Darcy; as well as numerous cousins and extended family members. He was preceded in death by parents Bill and Marney Chenier along with infant brother Roddy.
A service will take place at Current River Community Centre located at 450 Dewe Avenue on Monday, July 6 at 11:00 a. m., officiated by Venerable Deborah Kraft. Kevin would have wanted guests to come just as they are.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, please think about planting a tree in honor of Kevin.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Bruce for being such a great friend during this tough time; to Sue-Ann Oshkabewisens for helping guide Kevin’s spirit with sacred medicines; as well as Constable Ramos and healthcare providers who offered care during this difficult period.
He loved his family deeply, cherished life itself, and truly lived out his dream.
