Environment Canada has put out an air quality alert for the Ottawa-Gatineau region and some nearby areas because of smoke from forest fires in Quebec.
The smoke from these wildfires is likely to lead to poor air quality and lower visibility in the national capital, according to a yellow-level alert issued on Saturday afternoon.
Residents are advised to limit their time outdoors and think about postponing any outdoor plans, Environment Canada stated.
This smoke may cause minor issues such as headaches, a slight cough, and irritation in the ears, nose, and throat.
More severe symptoms can include wheezing, chest pain, and intense coughing, as noted by Environment Canada.
As of 5:45 p. m., a yellow-level warning was also extended to areas south and west of Ottawa like Perth, Renfrew, and Sharbot Lake.
The alert also applies to communities north of Gatineau such as Chelsea, Val-des-Monts, Maniwaki, and Mont-Laurier.
Environment Canada expects air quality in Ottawa to get better by Sunday morning.
