One person has died in a fire at a home in Plantagenet, Ont.

The fire was discovered at around 2:45 p. m. Friday, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) wrote in a statement.

They said emergency services then found someone dead inside the home.

Hawkesbury OPP’s crime unit, along with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service and Ontario’s Office of the Fire Marshal are all investigating what led to the fatal fire.

In an email to CBC Saturday morning, OPP said they aren’t releasing the gender or age of the person until they take “investigative steps.”

Plantagenet is approximately 63 kilometres east of downtown Ottawa.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to contact Hawkesbury OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1‑800‑222‑8477.
