Authorities are on the lookout for a pilot who went missing while operating a single-seat plane, which is thought to have flown into Ontario’s Kawartha Lakes area.

The small blue homemade aircraft, marked with “FOFZ” on its tail, did not land as scheduled, according to a post from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) on X on Saturday.

In a separate update on X that same day, Durham Regional Police reported that the pilot, 73-year-old David, took off from Oshawa Airport at 8:30 a. m. Friday and was supposed to return by 9:30 a. m.

While police did not disclose his last name, they described him as an experienced pilot standing five foot seven with a slim build. He has black and grey hair along with a moustache.

He typically flies in the vicinity south of Kawartha Lakes township and north of Lake Scugog, law enforcement stated. The last known position of the aircraft is believed to be near Balsam Lake.

Durham police mentioned they are collaborating with the OPP and Trenton Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in their efforts to find the missing pilot.

If anyone has information about his whereabouts, they are encouraged to contact Durham police.
